Technology and Society
In the past, human survival depended on intelligence, initiative, and efforts of individuals or of one's family. Humans adapted and developed tools, and weapons to keep themselves alive. The survival of human kin depended on one's ability to satisfy basic needs.
Today in America, the story has changed. We are no longer challenged to obtain food, water, or shelter. Even when humans reach low points in their lives, government agencies, charities, and churches are willing to lend a helping hand.
Technology has changed the world in which we live. Everyday, people use tools and techniques to help them do things. New technologies create new processes, and different processes and techniques are used to create new technologies. Much like the world is affected by technology; technological development is shaped by world's economies and cultures. Every technology has both positive and negative implications. The society using the technology has responsibility to evaluate the technology and determine if it is good or bad.
Related Notes!
There is no one correct technological solution. The best solution depends on the end users' needs or wants, and the positive and negative aspects of the solution. The study of needs and wants of the end user and the positive and negative aspects of technology is important because one person's technological solution may be another person's unwanted consequences.
Individuals must make informed decisions pertaining to the development, use, and maintenance of technology.
Individuals must be able to choose the best technologies for their wants and needs.
