This movement is usually straight, angular, or curving. Line also have direction in relation to its surface. Direction may be horizontal (left and right), vertical (up and down), or diagonal lines (slanted). There is many ways to create a line: think, thin, bold,. faint, solid, broken, etc. This is called line quality.

Shape - a outline draw on a surface in a closed path or a area of color that is not surrounded by a line, but is clear and distinct. Shape is simply a combination of lines. A shape can be opened or filled, curving or angular, regular or changing, flat or volumetric.
